With 20(!) broken IMSSC World Records we can look back on an amazing TRR2023 which took place on Wednesday 15 March and Thursday 16 March in Thialf, Heerenveen.

The Masters Sprint Games were held in Calgary on January 21 and 22 of 2023.

A small but very talented group of 50 skaters from 7 different countries skated 111 season bests, 10 personal records, and 6 masters records. The Olympic Oval staff did an excellent job of organizing the on ice portion of the contest and we thank them very much.

The Village Park Inn hosted the Welcome Reception and the Awards banquet.

Robert Irvine organized all of off ice portions of the event  and was able to get the City of Calgary as a major sponsor.

May thanks to Robert for his efforts!

Photos were taken of the event and are posted on line.  https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjAqLAr

The final match of the Dutch Masters Cup turned the entire stage of the intermediate classification upside down! Except for the number one: Mijke Kanneworff and Kees Verdouw were firmly in the lead, and also kept there positions!
The Dutch Masters Cup is all about getting as close as possible to the world record in your own age category. This is expressed as a percentage compared to  the world record of the previous season.  Breaking a world record means 75 bonus points extra.

At the second Dutch Masters Cup of this season, which took place on Saturday 7 January 2023 in Leeuwarden, 77 masters were at the start. In the ladies category we missed leader Thea Kroontje who had to cancel at the last minute due to illness. In the mens category, the numbers two and three of the intermediate classification, Bart Seffinga and Jan Boelen, were unfortunately absent. What will be the consequences for the intermediate ranking after this DMC-II?

This season 62 masters were at the start of the first competition of the Dutch Masters Cup. The kick-off took place on Sunday 20 November 2022 on the IJsbaan Twente in Enschede. For both ladies and men, masters in the 75 category are in the lead in the intermediate classification.

The organizers of the different international masters competitions 2022-2023 are working hard to get everything ready in time for the coming season.
A number of these competitions are already published on the website of the IMSSC under "Competitions" and masters can make their entries.

The overview of all competitions (updated version) can be found here:

New record in the Guinness Book of Records
It is with great pleasure to announce that our Japanese master speedskater Iichi Marumo has set on 9 January 2022 a new record as oldest speedskater competing in the Japan Masters Championships.
It is amazing that he is still skating on ice!
I wish Iichi a lot more of these records!
