With 13 ladies and 38 men, the final of the Dutch Masters Cup took place on Saturday evening on 19 February 2022 in the Elfstedenhal in Leeuwarden. For the ladies, the victory could not escape Thea Kroontje, but it was especially exciting who would be next to her on the podium. In the men’s race, after DMC-II, the German Rene van Bernum and sprint gun Bart Seffinga were in the lead together.
BARBARA HEERSCHOP WINS WOMEN’S FINAL MATCH
To her own surprise, the victory of this DMC final went to Barbara Heerschop. With a time of 9.35.40 in the 5km she approached the world record in the ladies AG65 at 98.46%. This record is with 9:26.55 in the name of the Russian Olga Makarova. Her time did not give her the normal 100 points, but 150 points because in the final the points are multiplied by 1.5.
Thea Kroontje finished second, just like with DMC-II. With her 500m time of 54.72 she approached the world record in the women’s AG75 with 97.92%. This record is with 53.58 to her own name. So Thea earned 120 points.
Monique Boerema took third place this evening. Also for her was the 500m that earned her the points. With 46.65 she came to 97.58% of the world record that stands in the ladies AG60 at 45.52 in the name of the Russian Tatyana Epaneshnikova. This earned her a total score of 105 points on this evening.
Mettie de Vegt (L30) followed in fourth place and Henriëtte Goede (L55) in fifth place.

RENE VAN BERNUM TAKES VICTORY IN THE MEN’S DMC-III
Where the victory went to Bart Seffinga last week, just like with DMC-I, it was Rene van Bernum who scored the most points. Rene came with his 1500m time of 1.59.40 to 98.82% of the world record M55, which is, with 1.57.99 in the name of Victor van den Hoff. With his 1.59.40 Rene gained the 150 final points.
Bart Seffinga’s approach of 97.91% of the men’s AG40 1000m world record, came to second place of the evening and thus took the 120 points.
And Kees Verdouw was able, partly because Arjan Bakker and Arjan Elferink were absent (they took third and fourth place at DMC-II), to take the points from third place tonight. This earned him 105 points.
Manuel Leito (M35) and Wibe Veenbaas (M70) were the numbers four and five of the evening.
