World Record at Long Distance Races Heerenveen

On Monday, March 20th 2017 the 13th Masters’ International Long Distance Races took place in Heerenveen. Not only Dutch masters came to the new rebuilt super ice rink ‘Thialf’, but also masters from Norway, Russia, Belgium, Germany, Romania, Kazakhstan and even Mongolia participated in this traditional long distance races.

Totally 52 skaters from 7 countries (12 ladies, 40 men) participated. And that the renewed ice rink can make good ice, appears from the good times: 43 SB’s, 28 PB’s and 1 world record!

The world record was skated by Kees Verdouw from the Netherlands. He crushed the old record on the 10.000 Meter of Toon Kooijmans (17:20,55 – 26/03/2012) in the M70-74 with 25 seconds to a new time of 16:55,17!
