Today, May 22 (Wed.), I as New President of IMSSC visited Mr. Marumo at his home in Chino City and personally handed over the Guinness World Record Certificate and the World Record Certificates (500m and 1000m) in the 95 years old category. The Guinness World Record Certificate arrived just before I left for the Netherlands, so I brought it to the International Masters Speed Skating Committee General Assembly to be held in the Netherlands on May 4 and 5, where it was viewed by the representatives of each country and received a message on the back. This time, the Guinness World Record certificate was presented via the Netherlands.
”If I had been 2 cm taller, I would have gone to the battlefield and would not be here now.” “I could not have gone to Moscow (2018) if Mr. Hosoda had not taken me there.” “Skating at the rink in Chino (my hometown) was faster than in Yamagata because traveling made me tiring.” ”Well, many people helped me, and I am truly grateful for this opportunity.” He talked on and on for an hour, but his memory and humor were both in good shape. I am not sure if I would go to the next competition in Fukushima, but he said, “I can skate 500m”. I felt that we must somehow make it possible to hold the Masters Speed Skating competition in Nagano.
