In what is becoming a very good tradition, 2nd International Masters Allround Trophy was held in Astana on 2 and 3 February 2013. 44 skaters from Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus took part with excellent results and multiple personal records.
Among participants were bronze medalist of 1964 Innsbruck Olympics Tatyana Sidorova, 1978 1500m world record holder Khalida Vorobyeva, Kazakhstan National Skating Federation President Vassiliy Krylov and showing a very good progress Kazakhstan’s Minister of Finance Bolat Zhamishev (how many countries can boast a skating Minister of Finance ?)
The in-form favourites Vladimir Kostin and Vitaliy Kopalnyuk showed the readiness for Allround and Sprint World Games by winning their categories with excellent results.
In yet another dress rehearsal of 2014 World Sprint Games, the Allround Trophy started with the spectacular opening ceremony, the impeccable race organisation and the dazzling medal ceremony and banquet. We would like to thank the management and staff of Alau Ice Palace for making this possible. The same weekend Kazakhstan Cup and Junior Championship took place, so while there were more than 150 starting skaters, everything went very smoothly. All Master skaters left Astana with good memories, beautiful trophies and souvenirs and great expectations for the 2014 World Sprint Games.
