Dutch Masters Cup I, 2019

Six new world records at the first Dutch Masters Cup

Not less than six IMSSC masters world records were improved during the first Dutch Masters Cup of this season! A total of 118 masters have started and 169 SBs and 18 PBs were improved. Two masters from Belgium, two from Germany and the rest from the Netherlands were there.

Thea Kroontje proudly in the lead

In her L75 category, Thea Kroontje crushed the records in the 500 and 1000 meters, both since 2012 in the name of the Russian Tatyana Sidorova, with 6 and 13 seconds respectively! She set the world record at the 500m this evening from 59.59 to a beautiful new record of 53.85 in this age class. In the 1000m she set the record from 2.00.13 to 1.47.33, bringing her to no less than 111.93% of the world record. With 100 points for the win and twice 75 bonus points for the world records, she leads the women’s ranking with 250 points.

Gerdien Meijer also skated two world records this evening. In her L55 category she first broke the 500m record, which since 2017 was in the name of Monique Boerema, from 44.53 to 43.51. And at the 1500m she broke the record of the Russian Lyudmila Filimonova narrowly: from 2.14.70 to 2.14.68. For her 500m time this meant that she approached the existing world record with 102.34%, which earned her – together with the 150 bonus points for the skated world records – a second place (230 points) in the intermediate classification.

Monique Boerema, winner of the DMC 2017-2018 and number three in the classification last season, follows as number three. With her 45.84 on the 500m at the L55 she reached 97.14% of her own (until tonight) current world record of 44.53. With this she takes the first 60 points of this season and she is third in the intermediate classification for the ladies.

Kees Verdouw leads the men’s classification

Two men’s world records were also broken, both by Kees Verdouw in the M75 category. First he set the record of 47.37 (driven in 2007 in Calgary) in the name of Jaap Bitter († 2019) to a new time of 47.35. After that he set the record of Toon Kooijmans from 2013 (2.24.82) to a new time of 2.22.54 at the 1500m. With his 1500m he came to 101.60% of the world record, which earned him the 100 points daily win. Together with the 150 bonus points for the world records, he is therefore firmly in the lead with 250 points among the men.

With 99.03%, Victor van den Hoff in the 1000m came close to the world record in his M65 category. With his time of 1.23.63, the time of 1.22.82 from Calgary by Jan van der Meulen is not that far out of sight. In any case, it earned Victor a second place in the intermediate classification. The first eighty points have arrived.

Bart Seffinga is in third place among the men. With his 500m time he reached 97.89% of the world record for the M35 masters. With 37.19 this record has been in the name of Harry Pardijs since 2013. Bart came to a great time of 37.99. This earned him the sixty points for third place.
