New Oval in Quebec

August 31st 2021 – PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE PREVAIL !!!

The Centre de Glaces Intact Insurances in Saint-Foy, Quebec (Canada), the site of the All Round Masters Games 2023 is now officially OPEN !!!!

Today was my first encounter on the ice and what can I say but …WOW….AND WELL done. It is easy to recognize that great effort has been applied by the Quebec team to consider all aspects of providing a high quality recreation, training and competition facility

Joining the 22+ age group for our first Long Track ice session were Canadian Olympians :Francois-Olivier Roberge, Jean Pichette, Gregor Jelonek, Benoit Lamarche Marcel Temblay and Marie-Pierre Lamarche. Also in the building were Robert Tremblay, Geatan Boucher, Robert Dubreiull and Francois Drolet. Everyone has BIG smiles !!

The location is on the site of the original Gaetan Boucher ovel, centrally located and close to plane, train and bus terminations. Hotels, restuarants are within walking distance as well.

…..and, BUT how were the ice conditions? you may ask. Well with more than a year with no Long Track skating, this visit was more or less to see if my skates still fit, (They do). I did ask some of the athletes who have been training here for a couple of days already, and as you might imagine, I received a variety of responses. All of them were positive and optomistic. It will suffice to say. that this new facility for everyone involved, with new equipment and some new members of staff. As time passes the operation will be dialled in to provide the best possible ice and environmental conditions. The ice managing crew is commited to taking input from the high performers, skaters and coaches, so the recipe is in place for some excellent results.

Since a picture is worth a 1000 words, I share these photos with you and say that I look forward to seeing your smiling faces here soon

Take care of each other and see you at the Oval
