In addition there were 16 guest skaters from other Age Groups. Proof of the good conditions were 286 Seasons Best Times, 56 Personal Records and 7 IMSSC Records. Of the seven IMSSC Records, Arne Kjell Foldvik, NOR, alone made five in the group M80! He broke the records in 500, 1500 and 5000 meter, and he made first time quotations in 10.000 meter and the All-round Big Combination. We think many of his records are quite strong. Congratulations! We will also congratulate Nina Tørset, NOR, who made a smashing new record in the 10.000 meter, group F40. Time: 16.44,10 on her first 10.000meter ever! Last congratulations go to David Hjalmarsson, SWE, who gave the 10.000 meter record in M30 a push downwards. Even if 15.00,70 is a very good achievement, he probably regrets the 7 tens preventing him from getting a time in the 14 minutes range!
There were also many other strong performances which you can see from the Results.
Wewere happy to see a Danish participant, Hans Peter Mikkelsen, M55. Wedon’t know if he is the first Dane to join in an IMSSC event. He tells that they have an outdoor rink with artificial ice in Copenhagen, and that there are several Danish master skaters. We hope to see more of them in the future!
On Saturday evening there was a modest banquet in the restaurant of Vikingskipet. Altogether 101 skaters, companions, officials and helpers met for goodfood and an enjoyable time together. We think such social events are important contributions to the good relations in the World of Master Speedskating.
The competition was once again organized by Aktiv Skøyteklubb of Oslo. It requires a large staff to organize a Speed Skating competition of this size. It is also far away from theclub’s home base, and they want to thank the officials and helpers from their own and other clubs that made this event run smoothly.
