Kroontje & Verdouw in the lead at DMC

This season 62 masters were at the start of the first competition of the Dutch Masters Cup. The kick-off took place on Sunday 20 November 2022 on the IJsbaan Twente in Enschede. For both ladies and men, masters in the 75 category are in the lead in the intermediate classification.

Thea Kroontje is in the lead
In the ladies category, Thea Kroontje is leading the classification. With 1.50.44 on the 1.000m she shows that she is still in very good condition. With that time she approached the world record that has been in her possession since 2019(!) with 1.47.33, at 97.18%. With this result she gained 100 points of the dmci’s victory.
In the second place among the ladies we find one of the younger masters: Mijke Anne Kanneworff (L35). With her 500m time of 42.52, she also came close to her own world record of 41.00 that she skated in Inzell on 30 January of this year. She reached with her time 96.43% of the world record.
Anke Jannnie Landman (L45) is back after a few years being out of competition and, with her first points she is in third place of the intermediate classification. With 44.01 in the 500m, she came to 94.75% of the world record that since 2020 with 41.70 in the name of the Japanese Tomomi Okazaki.
Kaska Rogulska (L50) and Evelien van der Kist (L35) follow in 4th and 5th place of the intermediate classification.

Exiting battle in the men category
This season, in the men’s race, it is exciting again between Kees Verdouw and Bart Seffinga. With minimal difference, it is Kees Verdouw who takes the first 100 points. With his 1.37.50 in the 1,000m he reached 95.97% of the world record (1.33,57) of the Finn Pentti Kiiskinen, skated in 2015 on the fast ice of Calgary. Bart Seffinga approached the world record in the M40 with his 500m time of 39.25 with just a slightly larger difference, namely 95.87%. This world record is skated by Andrew Love, Salt Lake City, since 2013.
Jan Boelen in the top three for the first time. This M75-er also shows to be in good shape. With his 50.09 he came to 91.89% of the world record (46,03) also skated by the Pentti Kiiskinen in 2015 in Calgary.
Jan is followed by Jeroen Schoppink (M35) and Jan Mein (M65), occupying places 4 and 5 of the intermediate classification.

In addition to the battle for the top three and skating personal best or season best times, it is about having fun among the masters that makes each season the Dutch Masters Cup a true party time. Do you have missed the first DMC, please make sure you participate next time!
