Great Success in Drummondville, MIST2025

News reported by Keith Wright (April 15, 2025)

In March of 2025 the seventh edition of the Masters International Short Track (MIST) Games was held in Drummondville, Quebec Canada. This was not just a short Track Competition it was an event that brought 139 skaters from 11 countries with ages from 31 to 79 all competing together to claim their own title of World age Champions.

The competition was held over 3 days and skaters raced in 4 distances. 1500m, 1000m, 777m & 500m so in total there were a total of 313 races. The racing fierce was fierce and very competitive and by the end of the competition 56 World Age records were broken and 34 new world age records established.

The organizer Yan Traversy who lives in Drummondville worked so hard to ensure the event was a huge success and working with the IMSSC to ensure the event complied with the constitution and rules. It was also important to raise the credibility and through his work many ex Olympians and world champions took part in the games either by supporting or competing on the ice.

An amazing team of officials and volunteers worked so hard to make the games the success it was in so many ways. We can call this the friendly games as there were so many smiling faces and happy people. All large crowd off supporters created such an atmosphere for the 3 days inspired all of the skaters to raise the standard of the competition.

Special tours and visits to local tourist areas were made by the organizers so everyone could find out more about Drummondville and before the event started,  a welcome reception was held giving the opportunity for all for all skaters to meet and a welcome speech was given members of the IMSSC with a focus on racing hard but making friends and creating new memories that will last for life.

When the event was complete all the skaters and families could unwind at the closing banquet. The member of the IMSSC specific to short track gave a presentation informing everyone of the development of the Masters International Short Track Games over 13 years then all that was left to do was to party all night long and prepare for the next MIST Games in 2027.
